Choose Your Business Name

article header

Your business name is one of the first things people will notice. It does not have to be perfect forever, but it should be easy to say, easy to spell, and clear enough for people to remember.

A good name can help your business feel real. It can also make it easier to create a website, social profile, email address, and brand identity.

Before you decide, take time to write down options and check if the name is already being used.
Write down name ideas

Make a simple list of possible names.

Start with every name that comes to mind. Do not judge them too early. Write down names based on your service, product, values, style, name, location, or customer.
Choose your top 3 names

Pick the names that feel the clearest.

Look at your list and choose 3 names that are easy to say, easy to spell, and feel close to your business idea.
Say each name out loud

Make sure the name sounds natural.

Say each name like you are introducing your business to someone. If it feels hard to explain or awkward to say, it may not be the strongest choice.
Search the name online

Check if other businesses are already using it.

Search each name on Google and social media. Look for businesses with the same or very similar name, especially in your industry.
Check the domain

See if a matching website name is available.

Search for the domain name you would want, like yourbusiness.com. If the exact name is taken, try simple versions that still feel clean and easy to remember.
Check social handles

See if the name is available on the platforms you plan to use.

Search Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, or any platform you may use. The handles do not have to be perfect, but they should be close enough for people to find you.
Save your final choice

Put your chosen name somewhere safe.

Once you feel good about the name, save it in your business notes. Include the name, domain ideas, social handle ideas, and any notes from your search.

Example text:

“My top name is Bright Desk Studio. It is easy to say, fits my creative service, and the matching domain is available.”
